We will run another Shuttle Driver induction on Day 3 (10/08/2025) at 10am in Heaven. Spaces are limited - there's a practical limit to the number of drivers that we can have :)

In this page we try to consolidate the current information you need as a driver. For visitors check out this page here: Shuttle Service

This page was last updated at: 09/08/2025

!! Please keep in mind. We try to keep this page up to date, but the most recent information is still in the Signal channels !!

Register as a driver

Prerequisites

There are some core requirements to driving the shuttle, which will be discussed and confirmed during the driver induction.

To summarise:

  1. You have a valid Class B licence (automatic is fine)
  2. You've held your licence for more than 1.5 years
  3. You understand that any penalties or endorsements whilst driving a shuttle will be your sole responsibility
  4. You understand your obligation to not be under the influence of anything when driving the shuttle

Process

  1. Register on Engelsystem (details tbc from Volunteering). You will not be able to sign up for a shift yet.
  2. Attend a shuttle briefing. These will be held in Heaven daily at 10am, but are currently not ongoing because we have enough drivers.
  3. Once approved in Engelsystem, register for shuttle shifts :)

Signal Groups

There are two groups:

  • WHY2025 Shuttle Drivers for internal discussions on the shuttles and organising drivers
  • WHY2025 Shuttle Requests for posting shuttle status updates & receiving pick up requests from passengers

Begin your shift

Begin you shift by checking the WHY2025 Shuttle Drivers Signal channel for any updates. If you are not in this channel, you probably need to participate in the shuttle briefing first.

You can register for shifts and sign up for the briefing via Volunteering.

Key Pickup

If it is the first shift of the day or there was no prior driver on you shuttle

  • you need to grab the key from the Warehouse
  • the vehicles are parked on the dedicated shuttle parking slots in the parking area. (https://map.why2025.org/)

If there was an angel shift before on your shuttle

  • check in the WHY2025 Shuttle Status Signal channel where it is located. (Drivers should send updates when they arrive/depart) this should help you to figure out when the vehicle arrives at the camp.
  • the handover happens at the drop of point in the Parking area

During your shift

  • drive the shuttle to deliver the Shuttle Service - ie. between the parking and station
  • if the shuttle is "on demand" you don't need to go anywhere, until there's a request
  • please report to the WHY2025 Shuttle Requests Signal channel every time you arrive/depart
  • monitor the WHY2025 Shuttle Requests Signal channel for pickup requests from passengers, particularly if the shuttle is "on-demand"
  • if you're stationary in the parking drop off for any length of time, please make sure the vehicle is charging
  • if the estimated range goes below 50km post in the channel, return to the charging area and plug the vehicle in

Information for passengers after dropping them of at the camp

  • Please give newcomers directions to the check in tent where they get their QR code scanned and get the badge

Accessible Shuttle

Team:Shuttle has one accessible shuttle. If you are driving the accessible shuttle you must have one of the DECTs.

If there is a passenger who needs the accessible shuttle, we will co-ordinate so that you prioritise that passenger.

Otherwise, the accessible shuttle can be used as a normal shuttle. Note that it is diesel, as opposed to electric.

End your shift

  • to keep track of the charge status of the vans, please report the current battery status in WHY2025 Shuttle Drivers when you handover

if there is a following shift on your shuttle

  • you should be able to hand over the van at the Shuttle parking

if there is no following shift on your shuttle

  • park the van at the parking area on the dedicated shuttle slots making sure it is plugged in and charging
  • after parking lock the van and drop the key at Warehouse (https://map.why2025.org/)
  • if the Warehouse is closed you can drop the keys also at HQ (https://map.why2025.org/)
  • if HQ is also closed, please phone crablab (4844)
