What does Team:Deco do?
Team:Deco provides decorations and signage.
- The decorations serve to make the event look good in a coherent way; we use (among other things) signs and lighting objects. Our goal is to welcome people and make them feel happy to be at the event.
- The signage is meant to look pretty, but in the first place it gives information and helps people find their way.
- The lighting we provide is mostly meant to look pretty, but it will also help you find your way in the dark. It could be described as decorative lighting, which also helps with orientation. We do not guarantee that no one will trip and fall. We do not provide 'street lights'.
Team:Deco does not provide:
- Design (except for the projects we create ourselves)
- Functional lighting (except for when we do)
- Flags (that's Team:Flags)
- Printed goods for other teams to use
For flags, see Team:Flags https://why2025.org/Team:Flags
Projects
The Decoration Team divides work into separate projects. If you as a decoration team member have an idea about what to make, please create a new project and fill out the details according to the template.

What Hackers Learn
Our 'lessons learned' from this year, in no particular order, collected from the Signal group.
- If a sign has been requested during the camp both this year and at MCH, Moem should just make the stencil in advance whether it's being pre-ordered or not.
- If the tent gets too hot, open an airway right away. Don't wait until we all get overheated and cranky.
- Order shelves for the deco tent. Get a fridge.
- Place the deco tent in a quieter spot.
- Complain if the plan is for a black tent.
- Mark our 'village' early during buildup.
- Make sure the font for signs can be cut by plotter as well as by laser cutter. Adjust the font if needed.
- Bring large enough quantities of screws, do not rely on Warehouse for that, you'll get crosshead if you do.
- Golf cart (SA007):
- Better dashboard with usable battery indicator.
- Inverter to charge the cherry picker or power the tent.
- Foldable rear seat.
- Removeable trailer side panels.
- Emiel: start on the work early, as in, as soon as the artwork is decided on, get a design going, and do a meet up for both looking at the size of things and a testfit then adjust and cut the wood preferably in one day.
- If we want to put large objects in Heaven, such as lamps... do it as early as possible while Heaven is still lighty used.
- And if you cannot hang them early, at least hang a cable from the ceiling to lift the light in place later (steel cable + pulley system should be perfectly fine for that)
- No matter what the plans for Heaven, have the tent builders run a few steel cables back to front, that we can use later to hang <stuff> from.
- And yes, we can do more printing, it is an easy way to have more colors on the field.
- Beach flags for important locations such as First Aid and Info.
- Order some nice bouwhekbanners to make the Angel desk in Heaven look better.
- Hoxolotl:
- make a floorplan with clearly labelled place for power needs
- stock the fridge with club mate
- have a coffee machine / wiener melange on hand
- be in shape so as to not be completely out of service above 26C
- bring moaar stickers
- get a tent you can stand in, and maybe a good chair
- make a todolist, and refuse anything being added to it, or if stuff is added, add some angels.
- Hang flags much higher. Maybe get NUTS to do it as they are hanging priklicht.
- I'd like there to be a slightly less silent lounge for people to have conversations, possibly with a bar, similar to at har. Maybe the current one was a bit too good at promoting complete solitude ;-)
- Gate needs to be up earlier. Maybe make it simpler to build.
- Roel:
- Have flags to hand out to villages, one per village. Perhaps not even have generic ones that we have to put up ourselves
- CfA: Have Blausand/Aurora arrange his own lights, oh my god. He can even use our money
- CfA: Make it clear that we do not hand out (full-event) tickets and have the funds be intended for materials
- Have a sign-making facility during the event, CCCamp apparently has something like this too
- Have clear procedures/requirements to determine what is fire-proof and what is not so there is no confusion after
- make sure CfA participants know what they can't and can expect from us.
- Wonko:
- Basically copy the other 'larger' OCs. They make sure they are comfortable. POC has an ice cream fridge and a water dispencer. Noc had a tschunk party etc pp. In comparison our tent was all business! (The tschörmän engineer in me is proud of us) If we want to be a village we should think about what we would like to have during camp.
- We had tables and chairs delivered on day -1 (methinks). While being nice during the event this is a bit late. Maybe discuss if we can have some early (together with some shelves) or if we should bring some. This makes unpacking/getting organized on site easier. And in case of rani/mud actually possible to work inside without the fear of destroying someones work thats laying on the floor
- If Moebelhaus can't guarantee furniture during early buildup, we could at least rent some Biersets for that.
- These can be converted into shelves as well (just add ratchet straps)
- Also get a few fans. In case of rain we have to paint inside and in combination with heat and humidity we might get a bit lightheaded.
- Our onboarding processes need some attention. We should make clear to newcomers which platforms and media we use to stay in contact (this year: mailing list, Signal group and wiki). Probably best to make a list of them on our team page so it's easy to point to.
