Build-Your-Own Bottle Rockets
Each kid gets to design and build their own rocket using a recycled soda bottle. They can paint it, decorate it, and make it uniquely theirs. Once the rockets are ready, we’ll head outside and launch a few together for a fun and exciting blast-off!
Age groups
Kids from 3-6 (or 9?) should come accompanied by parents
Time required
1 hour should be fine so everybody has a chance to finish their bot, most kids will finish early
Materials required
- two 0.5l soda bottles per kid (please bring it with you)
- sandpaper, silver tape
- color paper and glue and acrylic colors/pens to decorate the rockets
- scissors to cut the bottles/ tape/ paper
- 3d printed adapter for wings and gardena connector, 3d printed wings and 3d printed nosecone [i will provide STL, please help me print it]
- gardena connector [ordered]
- o ring for the seal
this kind of rocket can be launched into the air, we will not build the launcher but there will be one at the site (rocket filled only with air will fly around 10 meters high, rocket filled with air and water will fly around 30 meters up)
Angels required
We need 2-5 kid angels to help spread the materials and assist to anyone having problems.
Materials arranged
Who will provide them, and when?
- None

Howto: Buildup
Prepare the tables so kids can sit around them with basic materials on each of the table (scisors, glue, paper, colors), same volunteers that help to run the workshop can help to build up.
we should have tables with chairs, on each table we would need scisors, glue, colors, color paper. Each group can come collect that to the main table. Each kid would collect the 3d printed parts and gardena connetor.
for launching we would need a clear space (with no people) in radius of 10m (if we are launching with air only) or 50m (if we are launching with water) + some protection screen if we are launching with water (some fencing or chairs can work)
Howto: Teardown
- Throw/give away?
rockets can be taken away
no additional volunteers for cleanup, we just need to rearange the desks again and do some cleanup.
- How much time is required?
30 minutes after the workshop
