goal is to only use this transformer as the single source for all power.
Means a lot of thick cabling (240mm2 multiple km's) and try to retap the transformer to a + 5% voltage tap (If available on transformer)
long runs (parking of remote villages by means of solar/battery storage.

Confirmed, 1000 kVA transformer is located on the terrain,
goal is to only use this transformer as the single source for all power.
Means a lot of thick cabling (240mm2 multiple km's) and try to retap the transformer to a + 5% voltage tap (If available on transformer)

For WHY [https://ampowr.com/ Ampowr] generously sponsored a battery, that we plan on using for specific peak demand.

There will be space for all the feedback on this camp and a way to "catch and keep" the succesfactors and the lessons learned for the orga of 2029.

He will use different formats to facilitate the conversations to get to this result.

Chantal: Maybe also we should explain a little bit how it all started. Yes, let's do that. Yeah, let's start from the beginning. The genesis of the WHYcast.

Ad: The genesis of the WHYcast. Well, there was a rough idea. Okay, this would be cool. It's not going to be hard to do a weekly podcast. No, no. But maybe we should write something down. Yeah, let's start a little shared doc and call it a rough idea of the WHYcast.

Ad: Until this day, on my screen, I have a rough idea of the WHYcast. Yes. Yep, that is still working.

Nancy: It's still called the rough idea of the WHYcast.

Nancy: With all the episodes in an index file. And we never changed the name because that was kind of funny. We did some dumps there for ideas. And then, yeah, I don't know. I think it probably was Chantal who said,

Chantal: let's just go for it. Let's do this. And then I messaged Ad, I think, to help us out with some of the technical details because I had an idea of how to do it. But what would be the wisest thing to do is, we'll hear more about that later. But yeah, basically, we went from an idea to a little document to actually doing it. In under four days? Yeah, I think so. So it was very fast. Yes. Yes, because, yeah, basically, since, yeah, we had the idea and we had some of the stuff to already get started. And then we just did it. But why did we do the WHYcast is also very interesting because, yeah, it was basically for us, the idea was to give the information and make it accessible in a different format. Yeah. So not only having a wiki with all kinds of information and IRC channels and mailing lists. IRC channels, yes, and mailing lists because they can be quite overwhelming and it's a lot of reading. And also, there was no website yet. Like, why2025.org did not exist yet. So an accumulation of all the important information was not there yet. So.

Nancy: and things like that. I just want to talk about all the amazing volunteers that make WHY happen because that was also next to outreach to another audience. It was also a way to put our volunteers on a pedestal and show the world. What amazing people are working in the organization, voluntary, to make WHY happen. So it was also sort of like, yeah, do that. Be proud as everybody in Orga making camp happen.

Chantal: Let's be honest. Having a conversation about what you're doing in the Orga of WHY is way easier than making a blog post or updating the wiki or all that. All that kind of stuff. Chantal: And that was cool to do. So maybe you're interested in how we actually, made this happen technically. So can you maybe explain that? Technicalities.

Ad: Technicalities. First of all, Chantal and I went to look around to what hosting options are there. Because for a podcast, you basically need three things.

Speaker: The podcast itself, a place to put the file

Ad: and a special formatted RSS feed to tell all the platforms there's a podcast over there and these are the available episodes. And there are a few options, some paid, some more free options. And we ended up with CastoPod, which is a, in our case, externally hosted paid option. We did this because Team SysAdmin was working on getting a website and we wanted it to be done before then next Friday. So we would just went, okay, we got this platform. It works because we actually tried it out on a trial account before. This is really easy. This works. It connects to the Fediverse. So you can actually follow the podcast from your own Mastodon account. Through the Fediverse. It is an open source project. You can also self-host this same stuff on your own machine. But we decided for time and effort, no, we just pay a little for it. It's a little fee and everything just works and it did.

Chantal: And pay for your open source.

Ad: And pay for your open source.

Chantal: Yay.

Ad: Um, also, uh, putting it on the YouTube channel was a, was a bit of a no brainer. I mean, uh, there was this YouTube channel with, uh, all the, uh, uh, talks from previous events and now also the, the events from, uh, from why as well, like, okay, that's a, that's a very easy way. Um, pretty much everyone knows how to watch a YouTube video. Uh, there are some people who have, uh, issues with the platform of YouTube and that is completely valid, but it is very accessible, especially for people outside of our regular, uh, hacker community. Um, well, I already mentioned the, the Fediverse connection, which makes it very easy to tie in with the, with the social medias. So there's, there's a bunch of open source stuff in there. Um, and for some of the editing, um, uh, we also try to, uh, use some open source.

Speaker: Uh, but not a hundred percent because sometimes you need to get your stuff done.

Ad: And if opening up iMovie and tossing the stuff in there and clicking render, if

Speaker: that is the quickest way to get it done, that is the quickest way to get it done.

Ad: And then you have the right tool for the job at that time. Um, so some of the episodes are done with iMovie. Some of the episodes are done with, uh, KDN live. Um, some FFmpeg was used here and there to, uh, convert between, uh, formats. Um, yeah, so there's a lot of different tools, uh, used and, and, and luckily, uh, we got to use some, uh, some open source tools in there as well. Uh, audacity is also one of them. Um, and we can also use, uh, some, some extra help if we are doing this again in 2029. I don't know yet. We don't know yet. We haven't discussed it. We haven't said yes or no yet, but we might, we might. And this is how we went from. Oh, well, why not to, oh boy, every week and, uh, in the end, now we're here after why, um, my voice is still, um, a little bit rough, but we made it 47 episodes because we started zero. Obviously.

Speaker: I think we missed one week altogether. Yeah.

Nancy: More on that later, skip one week. We skipped one week, which I, which I still team amazing because. Okay. The consistency with, uh, our neuro, not so typical brains is, uh, is, uh, is, um, interesting to say the least that we pull this off. I think it's very cool. Yeah. It's very, and life happens as well in everybody's life.

Chantal: So, uh, yeah, I mean, uh, we basically made one every week. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we did. We did. Maybe we should also talk about, um, because our already, when we started this idea are already. Yeah. We kind of thought about, okay, life happens. Um, uh, we, we still had our normal jobs, of course. Um, yeah. How to plan this. So my idea was to record as much as possible when you had the time so that we could use it and maybe plan out stuff. Yeah, we did. We did, but there was also still.

Speaker: A lot's happening in the same week, especially for the news department.

Nancy: Uh, it was, yeah, we wanted to do it last minute as much as possible. Yeah.

Chantal: And sometimes we had prerecorded footage that could be used and then there was only a small, small piece that needed to be recorded and then edits and then it could go out. And sometimes it was more difficult and yeah, in a very short amount of time and whole episode needed to be made.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah.

Ad: But we managed, we managed, we already said, uh, one of the, one of the targets, uh, for, for this whole WHYcast thing was, uh, getting more people involved and, and, and reaching out to people who might not be, um, already on, on, on the wiki and not already on our social medias. Um, so it's a bit of accessibility and I think, um, this, uh, ties in with what, uh, Robert did with. Um, so it's a bit of accessibility and I think, um, this, uh, ties in with what, uh, Robert did with. Result of the white casts. And maybe, uh, you can talk a bit about that.

Speaker: Yeah.

Robert: Um, so I joined Team:Info like in the December period. Last year. And after a while, uh, I think it was one of the first meets that we have physically Nancy said, Hmm, it would be great if, if there would be more use of the white cars.

Speaker: And I said, well, we can transcribe it and create a blog out of it every week. Um.

Robert: So I put it on the list, and after a while, I sat down and I fiddled around with AI to create a transcription program. I did some testing with Whisper and created my first transcription and created a blog out of it and sent it all to you to see if that was something you guys would like to see happen. And the funny thing was, that was the first time I played with Python at scale, and I did it all with AI. So I reprogrammed everything together in just a couple of hours the first time, and we created the first transcriptions out of that. And at the time, you guys were doing a weekly history part of every Whitecast. I was like, wow, wow, that would be interesting to capture all that. So I started in a separate blog, so have a blog about the Whitecast and make the Whitecast accessible in text, have a transcription, but also capture all the historical facts from the episodes. So that kind of happened over time, because I continued playing with the transcription and made a couple of prompts and extracted all the historical facts from every episode, and it all ended up in the wiki. So all the transcriptions. All the episodes are now in the wiki, including the historical facts of every episode that was discussed. And even the historical facts that were happening at the go, like traditions, were captured this way. So it was really interesting to do. And I think one of the things I've struggled with the most was getting the AI to recognize who was talking and adding that correctly to the transcription in the end, because speaker one and speaker two is not much fun. And that worked out in the end.

Nancy: Yeah, and there's a full Whitecast episode where we do a very in-depth interview about it. And what I recollect from that interview was as well, and that is something that I have seen happening the last couple of weeks online as a discussion as well, the ethics behind the use of AI. And I think that's also interesting, because there might be people in our community and in our audience who are not... who are not that fond of the use. And also, I think that is also interesting to see. Have you heard anything back from that interview or on a later date or maybe at the event itself? No, not really.

Robert: No, no, no one really came with a discussion on this. But I think the interesting part here is that, like you guys said, you all started this to make the story of the volunteers more accessible.

Speaker: And using a videocast and a podcast at the same time and putting it out on YouTube, all the content is out there and it's already being eaten by all these AIs, but we weren't really using that.

Robert: So turning that around, making it more accessible in different ways, because even though some people like to listen or watch it, a lot of people like to just read the highlights and see if there's something interesting in there. So by adding that, using a local AI, WhisperOn on my laptop. On my laptop, that worked hard to encode all these sessions.

Nancy: It sometimes got smokey.

Robert: And then using that transcription to just create the blog. I mean, and there were disclaimers on the transcription saying that it was transcribed by an AI. And even once I put it on the wiki, people could add their own corrections, right? So there's, yes, there's... We use the AI to actually make something more useful out of the video and the audio that we already had created. And to me, this is a good example where we use the tools out there to actually do what they're supposed to do. You use it to make stuff more accessible.

Nancy: And also, what did you learn from it yourself, Robert?

Robert: Oh, a lot. Playing with the AI tools. The simple fact that programming is. After you said, oh, yeah, that's a great idea. Just do it. And me sitting down on a Tuesday night, I'm like, okay, let's just play with this for a couple of hours and see what's happening. You can get the default code. And I had sitting around a GitHub account with AI coding stuff. And I'm like, oh, let's play with that. And I was just shocked that within two hours, I could have a blog produced out of it. I had a CLI tool. And I tuned it over time and redid it and reworked it, of course. And it's out there. It's open so anyone can use it. So I learned a little more about how to actually train to force the AI to actually generate code that works and is production ready.

Nancy: And it helps that you're a programmer as well, of course.

Robert: Yeah. Yeah. And I see. So one of the things I really learned, I think, yeah, at this point in time, you have to be a programmer to actually get the.

Speaker: AI to actually do a good job because there's a lot of problems that it generates and you have to actually coach it to get to the right thing.

Robert: It got better over time, though. In the last year, there were so many improvements on AI coding that it's even better at this point in time a year later to actually generate this kind of stuff. So, yes, it's getting there. But I don't I wouldn't be worried as a programmer at this point that you're losing a job because it's not. Even though all the hype is still, oh, you just tell it what you want and it generates the code instantly. Yeah. For simple stuff, but not for the more complex stuff. So at this point.

Speaker: No.

Robert: But it's getting better.

Nancy: And if we're looking at security issues, it's. Yeah.

Robert: I don't want to think about the running all local on my machine. So I'm not. Yeah. So one of the things I really learned was do the correct prompting in the end. So. So you really have to spend time on that. To figure out how to tell what you want. It's it's like programming another human. And, OK, it's programming an AI by natural language and language. And that's interesting because words matter suddenly.

Nancy: Oh, yes. Yeah. And also tone of voice. Because sometimes the blocks, I didn't really recognize myself. But on the other hand, I was like, who cares? Because it's a nice, readable block. And that's fine. Right.

Robert: Yeah.

Nancy: Yeah.

Robert: The block part was about readability. I played around over. Yeah. Yeah. With the tone of voice and making it more.

Nancy: Hector is the emoji storm that's all that comes out of this.

Speaker: It's just it's like, please leave out all the.

Nancy: But yeah, I think I think we did. And we you did a terrific job to make the content more accessible, the information more accessible, because in the very, very beginning, we also received an email from someone who said, yeah, is this the right way to to provide. This is the right way to, you know, help. And then we sent out an email to the marketing department and they said, yes, and you have this. And then we only sent us down. So most of the emails we got were also from the company. But it's like we don't know what the right way to do it is. And we figured, oh, it's going to be pretty easy to, you know, use that right way. Or maybe we're just going to use this, you know. And we said, no, it's going to be wrong.

Robert: wasn't out there yet and I try to transcribe it the next day and get it out as soon as I could sometimes even once you release the audio and video the transcriptions would be out there as well yeah and and I think that helps to have more information out there than we ever had before this one yeah because like Chantal said talking to each other is way easier and you get a lot more information density out there but also on all the channels and we didn't start sending them to the mailing list because that would have probably got some flag which I think it's okay to just have the

Speaker: blog and people would be in that would interest to be interested in it would go and out and read it

Robert: and we did get some feedback from time to time that there were mistakes in there that will be

Speaker: corrected yeah well I I

Nancy: absolutely loved it and I think it's it's uh also because we both have a very warm heart for Team:Accessibility shout out to Simon uh also it's it was more um readable for more groups of people uh and the information was uh was on yeah and it was presented in more than one way and I think that's awesome so thanks again and no problem if people want to find out more they can reach out to you probably or they can find you on the wiki or anywhere yeah cool and we we will talk about your highlights later in the episode because I want to convert refer it back to attention at all because we have said it over and over and over and over

Ad: 60 different interviews so um yeah there was a bit of an overlap um the number one guest I think is dice from CTF um but you could also say yeah uh Walter uh also appeared on a lot of episodes because Walter uh told a couple of very cool stories and they got used in in a couple of episodes so um yeah is Walter really a guest at that point or just part of the team uh yeah what what do you know in the in the notes below we decided it's 42 unique guests oh the unique guests is clear that's that's obviously clear yeah yeah yeah

Speaker: um we also did a couple of locations uh we did uh some interviews at hacker Hotel at the end

Ad: look uh we had some uh different hacker spaces as a background including one in Valencia yay pretty cool um yeah um some interviews actually didn't make it yep yep and that's on you nancy

Nancy: i talked to the to the people it was uh there were two interviews recorded on field day the april 5th and i was talking to uh to walk that's the waffle operation center and i talked to marika for uh for the dvd village uh and we have those cute little microphones from we are not sponsored but from hollyland and they work like a charm uh when you turn on noise cancellation and i forgot noise cancellation so it was loud it was not terrible not not not listenable not doable so unfortunately we couldn't use uh those two interviews and even with some processing it

Ad: was uh no i tried i tried to process it but uh you already were in in pretty much the worst spot to start with and then forgetting the noise and then some and yeah it's unfortunate i missed you

Speaker: but it's okay well it's it's it's a lesson learned and uh there's there's more lessons

Ad: that we learned uh but uh yeah um one of the lessons is um weekly is a lot but uh at least we have people who uh actually listen and um we are currently using about

Speaker: uh three gigs of storage for only the mp3 files on the on the custom pod backend and um

Ad: how much bandwidth does it use well um for the for youtubes we don't know uh some of the podcast platforms actually cache the file so they download it once and you don't see them in the in the results uh but using 50 gigs almost 47 i think uh of bandwidth within a month

Speaker: sounds like a lot um and then there's the question of okay how how many uh minutes of material did

Ad: you shoot and how much did you actually use well as you might have guessed we don't do that many retakes most of the stuff is just as you hear it as it comes out this is it so i i guesstimated we do about 1.05 takes for for everything uh there's been a few moments that that one of us completely derailed it was like okay okay okay let's redo this but mostly we just cough and go on and and exactly make we make and i think with with inviting the guests doing the

Nancy: interviews editing the interviews uh putting everything online uh it is it has taken me

Speaker: approximately four to five hours a week uh so that is also when people told me yeah you will

Nancy: make more why costs after why right i was like i also have to make money again because this was voluntary so uh i am not be able to uh to make a weekly podcast uh for uh for a little while to say the least because it does take a lot of time even

Ad: when you have uh one takers yeah yeah and you said you you didn't even really want to make the podcast

Speaker: to the beginning because it was on your bucket list yeah um has that has that changed yes um well

Nancy: i have been talking to some people of born hack emf uh fright camp um um ccc not yet um i i have been thinking of of an idea not a weekly podcast by the way i might add but for instance a monthly

Speaker: podcast about european hacker camps uh overall this is still a rough idea but you know what

Nancy: happens to rough ideas yeah what happens to rough ideas yeah i think it's been a really tough idea

Ad: yeah you never know in five days so this has been a great spoiler for content to come and i think that's a nice bridge to uh to go to Team:Content because chantal you probably have a couple of uh

Chantal: of statistics as well i did want to go back to the podcast for just a little bit because we talked about like the the takes and there were also some bloopers and it was also very fun because yeah the person editing the podcast like also edited some bloopers and then we sent it to each other in uh in our signal group which was super super super fun because sometimes it was yeah crazy stuff and sometimes we even used it later in episodes so yeah yeah yeah

Speaker: yeah there's a few

Chantal: we're gonna get that in the lessons learned right yeah yeah yeah um yeah so do we want to go into the actual camp yes yes content let's go um i was a little part of the WHYcast but i was a big part of Team:Content um and Team:Content is um responsible for the schedule of WHY

Speaker: and

Chantal: so we yeah that's that's easy right

Ad: yeah and uh in previous

Chantal: additions uh there were a couple of separate teams at this time we decided to do it a little bit more together with each other so we had Team:Content responsible for like the overall schedule

Speaker: and we had a big team of reviewers and we had speaker desk and we had heralds

Chantal: uh and uh we all worked together uh a great deal to make all this happen have have have happened this is a blooper nice i'm leaving it in yes do that yeah uh maybe interesting to know what all goes into the schedule so before camp uh we had a cfp of course um because we want your content and we We had more than 200 CFP submissions. That's a lot to go through. So we had a team of reviewers that went through it. And that team actually left 1,494 submission reviews.

Nancy: Robert also being one of them, by the way.

Chantal: Yes, Robert definitely was one of them. Yeah. And based on those reviews by all of those lovely reviewers, we had a 48-hour marathon selection weekend. At Hack42, Team:Content came together and we went through all of the submissions, looked at the reviews, looked at all the subjects that were submitted, and we selected what we thought would be a great schedule. And once we had that, we actually also kind of released that and asked people to vote. Just tell us, like, would you want to go to this talk? And we had 480 people that actually voted for stuff.

Speaker: And that made it for us a great way to see, like, what would be popular

Chantal: and what would need a big stage. And that's how we actually came through to the entire schedule. And during camp, we had 150, more than 150, actually, like, talks and workshops scheduled in the entire schedule. And there were more than 180 speakers. And, yeah, that's a lot. So, yeah, SpeakerDesk had a big job of also, of course, like, checking all of them. And, you know, getting those speakers in during the camp and making sure they know where to be, at what time, and if they had any questions or needed to work on their slides, because, yeah, people still need to work on their slides during camp. They had a place to do that. And it was super fun. But I'm going to show you real quickly, I think, the schedule before the camp actually started. I'll also show you the schedule before the camp actually started. I'll also talk you through it. But if you're on YouTube, you can actually see it right now. So, before, we had a couple versions released. And, yeah, it was mostly all of the talks that we actually got submitted. But in the week before, why, we also added a lot of content from villages. Can you zoom in a little, Chantal? Can I zoom in? Yes. Yeah. I think it will be more readable, hopefully. That's the wrong screen. Is this better?

Speaker: Yes.

Chantal: Okay. Yes. Thank you. So, on the 8th of August, we actually kind of, kind of, in the morning, we kind of released a permanent schedule. And, yeah, then, yeah, something happened, because it was Friday. And if you haven't been at camp, Friday, there was a power outage. It started in the afternoon. And it lasted for around two hours, I think.

Speaker: I don't know.

Nancy: I was running around like crazy to make sure that things happened. Generators. Angry people from the food court were like, oh, my stuff is going to melt. So, no clue how long it lasted.

Chantal: And it was not just a power outage at camp. It was regional. So, there were more houses also affected by this. Yeah.

Speaker: So, there was a power outage.

Chantal: On Friday, our stages were still getting the final touches by Productie Huis. And the power outage did cause some delay in that. So, when the power got back on, we could not just continue. I mean, I'll show you the first. Release after the power outage. Because first, we got the message that we might have to push the schedule back an hour. So, we did that. The opening moved back an hour. And we canceled the only podcast about a hacker camp in the universe.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: Oh. Yeah. So, we had to cancel the talk that we were going to do on stage, but we're now doing recorded.

Ad: And just for context, the power outage started at about 3 in the afternoon. Yeah.

Speaker: The official opening was planned for...

Chantal: 5, I guess.

Speaker: 5.

Chantal: 5 PM.

Ad: The first time the power outage was actually shown on the website of the company who does the power grids in the Netherlands. In this case, this grid was Leander. They said they were expecting to solve it at 5.

Speaker: Yeah. Yes.

Chantal: And that's why we pushed back an hour.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: To see what happens. So, this was already like pretty early on, I think. I think we did this at 3.30. And then, yeah, we came closer to 5 and came closer and came closer. And we figured out, like, together with Productie Huis. Because we also work closely with Productie Huis because they do all the technical stuff on the stages. That, yeah, the testing wasn't done at a couple of stages. So, yeah, the closer we came to 5, we couldn't start at 6.

Ad: And surprise, surprise, at 5, it was still out.

Chantal: Yes.

Ad: It was only after 5 o'clock that the power actually came out.

Chantal: It was not long after 5 o'clock, I think. But, yeah, at 5, it was still out.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: But starting up again at 6 was not feasible. Here, I would like to add some background information.

Nancy: Yeah.

Speaker: Which we might not publish.

Nancy: But I think we can now officially. Because there was something else going on at PL headquarters. And that was that we've gotten some news about people who were having diarrhea and vomiting at the same time during the power outage.

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: So that was also a bit of a problem because of the power outage, the toilets weren't working. And it was a small amount of people at that point in time. But the doctor who was also on the field was like, hmm, this is this. We have to stay into close contact with the people on the field to figure out how big is this thing? What kind of thing is this?

Speaker: Is this just a food poisoning?

Nancy: Or something worse? So that was also going on in that same period of time.

Speaker: So, yes, there was a power outage.

Nancy: And then we talked to the health authorities who said, hmm, it might be not the best of a plan to put a lot of people in one tent at the same time. So that was sort of like a meta crisis as well for us in PL. So we had the power outage. We had people having diarrhea and vomiting at the same time. Health authorities who said it's not a good idea to put all the people in the tent. And we were like, okay. So power outage right now, please don't be solved just yet. And then it got solved.

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: And we were like, oh, fuck.

Speaker: Yeah. Now what?

Nancy: So. I was contacted. There was a little back story that was also going on. So people came to us saying, please, we need the program. The program has to get started again. And we want to get started. And we were like, no, no, no. We can't start.

Chantal: We can't start. Yeah. So Nancy called me and told me the bad news that we had to cancel the entire evening. Yes.

Nancy: Sorry. And also sorry to Elger because he was very sad as well because he had his stock plans that night as well. Oh, I'm going to talk. Oh, you are going to talk about that. Yes, definitely. Go for it.

Chantal: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because that was my biggest problem. But yes. So we got the call that we needed to cancel the entire evening. And being Team:Content and schedule being your baby. Yeah. It's not fun to cancel your entire evening.

Speaker: But it's also fun because it's a crisis.

Chantal: And a lot of people in the hacker cybersecurity community also thrive. It's crisis is, of course. So, yeah. Yeah. But we were being the bearer of bad news, of course, because we also had to contact all of the speakers that were scheduled on Friday night to tell them that their talk or workshop or anything else was canceled. That's no fun. Of course. Big shout out to Team Speaker Desk, which is part of content. But they actually e-mailed, called. Tried to contact all of the speakers immediately when we heard that. And told them, we're sorry, we have to cancel your talk. But what is your availability the coming days? That was a very, very big help. Because we reached everyone and got their availability for the coming days.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: So, yeah. We called it. Apocalypse. Friday night. The release of the schedule that we had to cancel everything was apocalypse.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: And then we, yeah, basically Friday night, yeah, we had to cancel everything. Then later on the situation got resolved. Nancy, do you want to talk about that more?

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: We figured out that it wasn't a bad virus. And it was something else. So that was the good news.

Guest: So we heard from the authorities that it was fine to start up the program again.

Nancy: And it was safe to continue with the rest of the camp. So that was a big relief. But, yeah, it costs a lot of people a lot of time and energy to proceed and fix and puzzle and sudoku and everything in again. Yeah.

Chantal: So we heard. I'm not entirely sure what time that was anymore. But that doesn't matter. We heard later in the night. Like, it's all good. We can restart the program. But, yeah, it was not possible to do that because we had a couple stages that were not finished yet. So we needed the time of Friday night to, yeah, to make, make, make them ready for, you know, for Saturday. So together with Productie Huis, Team:Content and Project Leiding PL, we decided to not restart the program and start the program on Saturday morning.

Speaker: Yes.

Chantal: I did have a couple of things. I had to cancel people. And we wanted to reschedule those. But we. We didn't have room to actually reschedule 18 presentations and workshops. So some decisions needed to be made. We did have a little bit of room in the morning. So we. But there was only room for, I think, four presentations. So that wasn't enough. So I requested if we could go on a little bit longer. Because we. We tried to schedule nothing later than 11 at night so that everything would be quiet at camp. But we talked about it. And if it were talks that were just talking and so no big demos of music and all that kind of stuff, then it would be possible. So we were able to reschedule some things later at night. And that resulted in that.

Speaker: We could actually reschedule 99.

Chantal: We rescheduled 17 of the 18 presentations and workshops. We had to cancel one. Impressive. Yes. Wow. And then. Okay. We did cancel the talk about the podcast. And we did also cancel the talk about 10 editions of the Hacker Camp. Which we were completely fine with. Yeah. At that moment.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: And I could imagine. But we only had to actually cancel one speaker that was not part of PL or Orga. And he was very understanding.

Speaker: So. Yeah.

Chantal: A total of 25 speakers were actually affected and they all kept calm. So. Awesome. Thank you. Yes. So we rescheduled basically everything. And then. We had some fun with the release names. I can give you like the release on a Saturday morning.

Speaker: Oh, yeah.

Chantal: Maybe also good. We decided to not change anything in the Saturday morning. Because. Yeah. That would give the most stability also for Produxy House to like check if everything is working correctly. If we can stream. If the live streams work. So we decided to not change anything in Saturday morning. But from the afternoon. And the rest of the days we did reschedule the things. And also the opening that was scheduled at on Saturday at 12.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: Which was. Yeah. Weird time. But yeah. It was the only way that we could actually reschedule the opening.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: Which was fine.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: It was fine. People were there. People enjoyed the opening. I tried to enjoy the opening. But then I have to fix stuff. So on Saturday morning we released a new schedule. And then we called it version day one is day two.

Speaker: Yeah.

Everything was already set in motion. So.

Chantal: We were able to. Reschedule that one. On the party stage. And it was recorded. It was live streamed. And all future things. On that stage. Were also recorded. And. Live streamed. Not everything. Is released. I think. But. We're. Because it's music. So it's. A little bit more. Work with that. But. But. They're. They're still working on that. And. And. But a lot. On that stage. You can already see. On. That stage. You can see that.

Speaker: really really cool um yeah then maybe let's um talk about uh the speakers i am very very proud

Chantal: that 99.3 percent of the speakers were on time on stage because we had a very tight schedule

Nancy: and very good heralds from what i've heard yeah definitely yeah yeah yeah um so about the heralds

Speaker: we had a hundred percent plus herald stage coverage sometimes there were two heralds uh

Chantal: so that was really cool and uh we had a total of 26 heralds that spent uh two hundred and fifty six hours on stage and managing speakers helping speakers uh managing the time because that's a definitely an important part of being in heralds and then introducing them uh as well

Speaker: uh yeah that was really really cool um i already talked about speaker desk but speaker desk is also

Chantal: a place to for for speakers to chill and get a drink and work on their presentation maybe it's fun to know like how much they actually drive because yes he gave up more than 500 bottles of water uh to speakers yeah and more than 400 yeah yeah and more than 400 bottles of uh club mate yeah so they had a water and a club mate at the same time uh and um uh one of our uh speaker desk uh people uh nicholas uh he actually made greek iced coffees and he made uh 58 of them and that i missed that oh iced coffee yeah greek iced coffees yeah yeah i'm intrigued we also had lasers maybe you've seen them the purple lasers that was speaker desk uh and there were four giant lasers and we had uh 32 beams uh yeah going all night uh which was really cool uh but yeah it was also a place to chill so we had some hammocks and uh beach chairs uh especially designed uh for

Nancy: and we had a golf range and did someone use it yes yes a lot of people yeah spent a little bit

Chantal: of time golfing yeah yeah so that was really cool yeah yeah and i think it's also awesome to see

Nancy: realize i missed stuff at camp you did are you surprised that you missed things at camp well everybody missed things yeah as a normal uh

Chantal: visitor of a camp you're already missing out because you cannot be everywhere at the same time but as someone in a team yeah you're definitely missing missing stuff but that's okay it's fine

Ad: yeah next time i'll yes yeah next time miss other stuff so i had after uh friday night apocalypse i

Chantal: had one goal i wanted to see the opening and five minutes in yeah yeah i already got called away to uh fix something yeah so i didn't get to see the opening

Speaker: i did see the closing by the way uh yeah well i was really happy with the opening that we had all

Nancy: the teams introduced and saying welcome to uh to uh so you were in the opening i'm in the opening

Speaker: as well so yeah that's also yeah yeah any more else about content because yeah i i think uh when

Nancy: you look at it uh um what differed from other uh camps is that we didn't have like uh expensive people flying in uh fluent in uh we just did it with community yeah basically almost community content only yeah uh and from what i've heard and seen and i know robert have seen how many how many talks have you watched already in our robert

Robert: so so during the event i watched the opening and the closing but after the event i've watched a couple so about half a dozen now

Chantal: now there were talks about mental health um extremely technical hacks um about robes about robes yes uh uh multiple uh workshops uh for adults and for for kids for adults yeah um there was lego yes for kids there was a cyber debate i love the cyber debate yeah that was great yeah that was that one is not online yet but we're still working on it because could be online now this was this was also a very interesting one do we want to talk about another crisis yes oh that was an interesting one yeah

Nancy: yes because this is like the rough idea of the WHYcast this was the rough idea of the cyber debate yeah so i myself were talking on the phone because we talk on the phone quite a while like oh um we there are new elections coming up uh what can we do with that should we do something with that because

Chantal: uh yeah cyber security and digital things are always getting more important state of the world yeah always interesting so yeah we decided yeah let's try and we did it yes yes uh you did it

Nancy: together with breno and some other people but uh you and breno are the mom and dad of the cyber

Chantal: debates yeah from my perspective yeah and then uh on sunday we hosted the cyber debate and uh yeah that was also very interesting it it started right sunday morning when our debate leader had to cancel for very valid reasons but we only had like two hours to find someone to lead the debate and we wanted to send him a lock picking set because uh he had a break-in in his house so yeah um but i must say um uh uh i think breno found her but the uh formidable uh sarah slagers actually walked in and had one hour to prepare everything but she did amazing so yeah that was really really cool and then um yeah so it right before the cyber debates was supposed to begin uh we were like setting up and then uh one of the politicians didn't show up yet and he called and he was like i'm at the entrance and we were like but the cyber debate is starting right now so he wasn't on time and then there was also a different situation that uh made it very difficult to run the entire uh cyber debates because this power was being a little bit weird it was dipping flaky it was very flaky yeah yes we also got a call about the demonstration yes also that we had a call about rumors that there might be people wanted

Speaker: to demonstrate yes yes so it was a crisis and I think I spent like most of the debate running from

Chantal: one end of the stage to the other end of the stage around the audience because you don't want to go through the audience.

Speaker: And yeah, it was very interesting.

Chantal: But the whole power, the power being flaky did cause some technical issues in the audio mostly. So yeah, the whole, the recording isn't very good. It's a little bit weird. So Produxie Hires is still trying to like make it as best as possible so that we can still put it out. But yeah, it takes a long time because they also had other events to do. Yeah, so the recording, I'm still expecting it to come out, but yeah, it takes a little bit longer. I heard it was very interesting and very good. I also heard the responses of the audience, but I did not hear anything because I was worrying about all the crises going on all at the same time and making sure that no one, actually noticed that there was something going on. And I think we did really well with that.

Ad: uh, which is one of the lessons learned from doing this weekly podcast. You will screw things up. You will mispronounce, you will, uh, misspeak. And, yeah, obviously enough. Um, but you will, uh, at some point say that a certain hackerspace is not an Amersfoort, but Amsterdam, and then get corrected and keep correcting it. And it becomes a meme.

Ad: And we kind of do like memes, but there are more lessons learned. Um, the right time never comes is one of the lessons. No, you just start, you improvise and little by little you become better at it. So just do it is a lesson learned.

Ad: I did thoroughly enjoy, uh, making all these episodes. I thoroughly enjoyed, um, uh, being part of, uh, of, of Team:Info.

Speaker: Um,

Ad: there's a bunch of things that I learned. There's a bunch of things that I have improved on, uh, during, uh, all these months of work. And there are more stuff, uh, that, that will improve if I do things like this again. But if you don't start, you'll never improve. So just do it.

Chantal: I do see a couple of, uh, um, uh, examples also written down under the, the right time. Go ahead. Just go ahead. Yeah. So not entirely sure, not entirely sure what everything means,

Speaker: but the thumbnails.

Chantal: So our first couple of episodes were basically an automatically generated thumbnail of, uh,

Speaker: YouTube,

Guest: uh,

Chantal: which works fine. But then we started creating our own thumbnails because they,

Speaker: yeah, it looks better.

Chantal: Yeah. Better. Yeah.

Nancy: So I learned gunfire because I never used gunfire in my life. And, uh, uh, it has cool features. And now I know how to make, uh, thumbnails. Yeah. And now I have to video edit because I never had done that before in my life.

Speaker: So,

Nancy: yeah, I really had to, had to look up everything, how, how even to, to cut a scene or do anything, everything was new to me. And I was so happy when I created the fire, when we had Yik in our episode, it was like, probably for anyone who was in video editing, it's like a no brainer thing to do. But for me, it was like, Oh my God, I learned something new. Yeah.

Chantal: You learn, you learn, you use new tools and then learn new stuff. And that, that was very fun.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: And the other one, North of Amsterdam.

Speaker: Yeah.

Ad: I am not entirely sure. That took a while. That is the, that is the misspeaking.

Speaker: Um,

Ad: in Dutch, uh, you can say boven as above, but also as north of something. Um, so in the first couple of episodes, uh, we were talking about, uh, being 42 kilometers above, above Amsterdam while it is north of Amsterdam and it's not floating in the sky 42 kilometers.

Speaker: I did not even realize this. Well,

Nancy: somebody did and mentioned it to me and it was like, yeah, each episode, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm laughing out loud hearing you say that. And why, why did it take you so long to mention this to me so we can fix it?

Ad: Thank you, Coen. Thank you, Coen.

Nancy: Team:Waste, Team:Waste forever. No, but so that's, that took a while before someone pointed that out to, to us, uh, so we could fix it. Um,

Speaker: yeah,

Nancy: another lesson learned from me, uh, for me, it was really fun. I mean, I am in, uh, I was in project lighting, of course. And, uh, although you talk to a lot of people during physical meetups, uh, uh, you, you don't actually really talk, talk to people. And this gave me an opportunity, especially in the interviewing part to talk to so many people, within the organization and to hear and figure out what's, uh, what's drives them to be part of the Orga. And that was really helpful for me as well, uh, from a project planning point of view to know what's going on within the teams and know why people are so motivated and so, uh, driven to, uh, to make this cool event happen. So that was very awesome to me.

Speaker: Um,

Nancy: oh yeah. Um, there was this one episode that Chantal and I did together because

Speaker: I had other things to do and that was on March 28th.

Chantal: Yeah. So, yeah. So it was to be released on the 28th of March. Yeah. Yes.

Speaker: And it was episode number 27. Yeah.

Chantal: So,

Chantal: what we do in our rough idea of the WHYcast, uh, document,

Speaker: we put the 28 in there.

Ad: Well, the title in the YouTube is,

Chantal: yeah, the title is different. Yes, yes, yes. But we, we, we, we called it episode 28.

Ad: And the reason I was not there for that episode was because life happened.

Speaker: And,

Ad: uh, that is a thing that happens.

Ad: And when life happens, especially when you work together with, uh, big groups of awesome people, it's okay to step back.

Ad: at some point you don't have the headspace, the physical energy to do something,

Ad: that is fine. Um, either we did it once we skipped a week or you just say to people, okay, sorry, can you help me? Cause I can't.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah.

Chantal: And I had the same thing because I was,

Speaker: uh,

Chantal: highly involved in the beginning and then life happened and I had to step down and, uh, uh, it, yeah,

Speaker: it's still all worked out.

Chantal: And then, uh, a couple months later I got to step in for someone else where life happened. So, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Ad: Yeah.

Speaker: So,

Ad: um, if, if you do stuff with friends and people that become friends while doing events like this, it's okay to say, uh, sorry, I can't right now.

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: Someone, someone will step in.

Ad: And, um, that also ties in a bit maybe with, uh, with the after white blues.

Ad: it's okay to be not, uh, feeling your, your, your, your sunny best every day.

Guest: What helped me a lot with,

Chantal: uh, uh, the whole black hole after why was actually going back and then help with tear down.

Chantal: Because compared to MCH, I had,

Chantal: it was way easier to, uh, get back on track and not feel the, the dread and doom of the black hole after a hacker camp. So, yeah,

Nancy: I'm still in the middle of, of the, the whole, uh, making sure that all the permit rules are still, so I'm not done yet. I haven't seen the whole yet.

Chantal: Now we're all not entirely done yet, but yeah, we're here.

Nancy: I would like to mention one funny thing about sounds, um, because people tend to recognize us by our voices. Uh, uh, I'll test. I had that. I have had that. Chantal has had that, but I was, uh, talking to this, um, dude who was doing dishes in heaven. So I thanked him very much for doing dishes in heaven, because you should thank all angels as much as possible. Uh, especially when they're doing things that are very helpful to everybody. So I said, well, thank you so much for the doing dishes. And he said, well, thank you for the WHYcast. And I was like, okay, interesting.

Speaker: He said,

Nancy: this is my first hacker camp experience ever. And by listening to the WHYcast, I, it taught me so much about, how this all works and the whole angel thing. And, uh, uh, the, the ways, the way it is organized and all the information. Uh, so thank you so much for, for, for creating that. And my goodness, you talk slowly in real life, because he used to listen to us at, uh, at one point, uh, at 25 speeds. So he said, I'm so sorry, but you're so slow in real life. I never got that. I've never done that one before, but I thought it was a hilarious, uh, hilarious example of, uh, an encounter with a actual listener. Yeah.

Nancy: so I recorded all these short videos for the opening from people saying, hi, welcome to WHY from team. And their team name and everybody I spoke with after the opening set. Oh yeah. I love the opening except my part. Yeah.

Guest: It's always, your own is cringe. Your,

Nancy: your own is cringe. Yeah. So if you, if you want to get over that, when she feeling of seeing yourself and hearing yourself start a podcast,

Chantal: that can definitely something episodes and then,

Ad: and then you'll be fine. Yeah,

Chantal: no, no, that, that definitely helps. Um, also a lot of people experience. So if you, uh, have a talk that has been recorded and I'm watching it back. A lot of people find that very, very difficult. It definitely helps if you just do it and keep doing it. Yeah. Because, uh, yeah. Oh, watch it with other people. Yeah, no, yeah, yeah. I, I had that same thing, but since I've been doing a lot of podcasts and also watching and, and listening back to that, uh, it's way more easy. And then I can just,

Chantal: from a distance, look at it like, okay, so I might have to improve on this, but that was fine. And yes, I did stumble all my words there, but yeah, that happens to everyone.

Speaker: Yeah.

Chantal: So yeah, no, it, it, it helps if you do it a lot, but it is still, it's definitely in the beginning. Super, super, super cringy. Yeah,

Speaker: absolutely.

Ad: Absolutely. But then, uh, you just do it and, and, and cool stuff arises from that. Um, I guess I see something here about the, the say of pizza, uh, which was just an idea.

Chantal: That's also a rough idea.

Ad: So a rough idea. And from what I heard, I mean, uh, unfortunately I couldn't attend myself, but, um, it was a great success.

Speaker: Yeah,

Nancy: it definitely was. Yeah. And, and we have, we have a complete episode, but if you look for the thumbnail with all the shots also, I mean, different, different color hair. Okay. So that's the thumbnail. Uh, uh, she will explain there what to see if pizza night was all about. We really wanted to have more, uh, diversity and underrepresented groups on stage. Uh, and we tried different things to, to make that happen. And one of the things was, uh, we wanted to make sure that we were, helping people, uh, in the way we can help people from that target audience, uh, with our CFPs, uh, during a night, uh, hybrids,

Speaker: uh,

Nancy: where they can, could come and get help to get their CFP out of the door. And, um, we, we still have to run the numbers of things. So it's all, that is something that we, uh, that we aim to do in the coming couple of months. Yeah.

Speaker: Uh,

Nancy: to see what the effects were of all the things that we did.

Speaker: But I think, yeah, sometimes this just pops up, right?

Nancy: Preparing the white glass, I think.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah.

Ad: Yeah. And that was actually the actual episode 28.

Speaker: Ah.

Ad: So everything comes full circle.

Nancy: Ah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: Very nice. No, but I think it's cool to have more initiatives to, yeah.

Chantal: Yeah, help out. Because sometimes it feels very daunting to submit your CFP to a big hacker camp or a conference. But, yeah, we want to hear from other people. Yes. And not always the same people. So, yeah. So, yeah. CFP tonight. Or. And writing CFPs that are inclusive really help with that. So, yeah.

Nancy: And also, I think the lesson learned here, if we look from it, from the white glass perspective, if you start creating cool stuff with a group of friends and meeting each other on a regular basis, more other cool stuff derives from it. Yeah.

Chantal: And I think having a podcast about why and also mentioning these kind of things in there. So a lot of comments you get when you are in a podcast. And I think one of the things you get when you are in a podcast is that people listen to you and then feel like they're in the conversation and are becoming friends. So that also helps with lowering the bar and helping people overcome fear with, for example, submitting something or participating in a team. So, yeah. We did lots of different stuff to help with that.

Speaker: Yeah. Cool.

Nancy: I think it would be nice if we could finish up. With some highlights overall, but maybe also some personal highlights from us, from our experience at WHY. So we saw a lot of drone footage on Mastodon as well, but I think I can edit it in here. Ad, you had a drone video, right? With consent and all the right permit thingies.

Ad: I have actually several drone videos. Because there was a group. There was a group of drone enthusiasts that suddenly gathered in the info tent. And we were like, what are all these people doing here? While doing our info desk in the same tent as KaosPost. And it was suddenly really crowded. Like, what are you guys here for? We're for the drones.

Speaker: Oh? Oh?

Ad: And that means there's cool videos. So there was a signal group especially for that. And I hope. I think we jumped in there and saw very, very cool drone shots. Which you can now probably see on YouTube if you're watching this there.

Speaker: Yes.

Ad: We'll edit some in and we'll put the name of the drone shooters there as well. Because credit is where credit is due.

Nancy: Very good talking about credits.

Speaker: We also we had some previews already in the WHYcast about the firewall.

Nancy: And it made us really happy. Really curious. And I think it was one of the amazing eye catchers at WHY, right? I mean, Dimi had so much fun. And even Anthony drove around with the mayor of the municipality and asked Dimi because it was daytime. So it was a bit too light actually for the firewall. But he called Dimi and went like, fire up the firewall. And he was driving there with the mayor. And the mayor was like, whoa, what the actual bleep is this? And Anthony was. So cool. And he said, yeah, you gave a permit for it. I thought was hilarious as well. Because, yeah, it was cool. Yeah. And people also complain about a diesel leak, that there was diesel leakage, which was interesting because they were gas lit. So, oh, well. But I think the firewall was a very awesome thing. And hopefully we will see it at other events around Europe as well. Because, of course, Dimi made it not only for WHY, but also to use in future camps. So these were particular, very visible highlights. So what were your personal highlights? I think I will start with Robert. Robert, can you point out some things that were very special to you or beautiful to you?

Robert: Yeah, definitely. From the stuff I saw afterwards. Because during the event, I basically experienced only a few talks, but the FRAC release party, so on stage, I helped creating the booklet from Team:Info. I picked that up and that was really a lot of fun seeing them sharing the story about 40 years of FRAC magazine and then releasing it after exactly 20 years. 2001 was the first time. So that's 24 years after. The first physical release, they released it for the 40th year. That was fun. And then going to Milliways and meet up while they were having their beer party and doing lots of fun stuff there. And also, I enjoyed a lot the Sunday afternoon. I had to step out of the cyber debate because Rijn Ouwehand came. Reyn was a C64 composer. He made musics in the late 80s on the Commodore 64, and he came to play a full hour of his contemporary work during the event. That was really a lot of fun seeing him play. And then the last thing I want to mention, Saturday, my parents came to the event and that was their 80 plus and they couldn't visualize what it was I was doing. So I got an opportunity to invite them. Thank you, Nancy, for having me. That opportunity, because that was really a lot of fun showing them around. And I was there yesterday to talk to them and they're still like, that was amazing. We can't believe that that field was so huge and so many people were there. And we did a little parents hack there.

Nancy: Can you tell a little bit about that? Because I think that's still a school.

Robert: Yeah, so we we your parents were there. And. Yoko's parents were there and we talked to the parents from each other to share how much the person invested in WHY happening. So I went up to your mother and Yoko's mother to share the amazing amount of work you put in.

Nancy: Brag to the other parents. That was that was what we what we aim to do. I'm going to brag about you to your parents. Yeah. You are going to brag about me to my mom. That was that work wonders. That work wonders. Yeah. Cool. And three generations on the field because your son was also there. My son was there.

Ad: Yeah.

Robert: Yeah. So there was a lot of fun.

Speaker: Yeah.

Nancy: Awesome.

Ad: Well, and that ties in with one of my highlights because, yeah, my dad was there and was really cool to show him what I was working on for for a year. But also there were a bunch of people from the local neighborhood. So the people. The people who would have heard our little event going on that they live within a noise radio radius and I actually got to show them and also Yoko's parents around the field for I think we were there for two hours just bruising the villages and looking intense and just seeing what was happening in all the all the different corners. And we still missed a whole bunch of stuff because there's just so much going on, but the reactions, the responses we got were really, really great and people really enjoyed seeing all the different facets and also hearing the stories about how the hacker camps and hackers in general communicate with each other, all the the working together stuff, the fact that the biggest part of the WHY2025 website is actually a weekly one. Yeah. A wiki where you can all add your own information, where you can add and correct stuff, where you can make all the information available to everyone in a central place. And the fact that this self moderation just works. That was really cool for them to see because they have more events there. For example, just before why there was a musical event. So that was just a lot of noise. in a lot of people uh actually quite a lot more than uh they were at WHY um but the the lesser density of a hacker camp and this uh constant 24 hour working together and and and being together and this of of this lowlands meets hacker conference security conference um in the outdoors was for them uh really mind-blowing i mean they as neighbors uh did get a tour at the music event

Speaker: but this was so completely different um and and showing people from really outside of the

Ad: community like how cool it is what we do as hackers uh that was for my for me one of the

Speaker: one of the highlights cool and you should tell do you have uh you already mentioned a lot from

Nancy: from all teams Team:Content perspective of course that was uh making sure that everything uh i already mentioned

Chantal: a lot of highlights indeed because they were definitely highlight crisis yeah it was a highlight i know what i still want to mention about that i am very very proud how Team:Content so including speaker desk heralds uh and also production house by the way which is not part of Team:Content but we worked very closely with them

Speaker: how we

Chantal: managed the crisis and how we worked together because it was it was a crisis but it was so much fun to work together and it was such an good oiled machine so yeah that was amazing to see

Ad: that's my personal highlight cool well i think uh i can speak for everyone to say uh we're proud of

Nancy: all the teams anyways and well the fun fact is a lot of teams said my team was the best we had to Team:Content is the best Team:Info is the best team promise but i've heard so many teams seems the thing is we are all team-wide right and i know this sounds corny unicorns and rainbows but it was all one team in the end at the end of the day so it's so cool that all the teams are so very proud of what they did what they pulled off uh yeah i think i think many many team leads will say uh

Ad: it was it was

Nancy: i had the first team we were the best

Ad: the best team yeah of course of course uh i mean Team:Info did have the the best people in the team obviously two out of four here agree just don't tell the others no um but i think every team lead will say that it is because of the team and and working together inside the team working together with all the other teams um it it's not not a one-person show it's it's a it's a hundreds of

Guest: volunteers working together show yeah can i also do my highlights you can also do your highlights nancy one of the things that i find very very cool that was i got i finally got my own bear

Chantal: yeah yeah yeah that was so that was fun also the best team of course team food

Nancy: garden Team:Bar team food bar best team in the world um uh they uh they created nancy beer uh and from what i understood they got the idea from me because some at some event i said it would be so cool to have nancy beers at the bar like blonde beer uh that that would be awesome and they actually created and they were numbered they were limited edition they had an nfc tag on the bottom and my mom who was there on saturday afternoon was like nancy get me get because her uh which is not always obvious but she wanted to be a nancy pierce as well so uh and my mom also loves beer so i got one for myself and one for my mom so awesome that was that was absolutely in highlight what i really liked also was the media coverage we uh i was in the live radio show we did an interview with nsa uh uh so that was also kind of cool also because it wasn't that

Speaker: it was except for normal

Nancy: this guy's just sorry but no never again on the field because he was telling shit uh but nsa did an amazing job three percent an amazing job and the radio show uh truly gave a nice overview on what was going on at a hacker camp and like decriminalizing the term hacker uh which i particularly like a lot that you have the media coverage that we want to see as a hacker community so that was something of course i met my big superhero test leader there and nobody gives a crap about this story but that was absolutely one of my personal highlights some of you were there you have seen me freak out yes yeah um i will let you know in the show notes who test leader is it's only my it's a big thing

Speaker: for Nancy it was a very big thing for me yeah um uh two more things no one more thing uh i really

Guest: enjoyed the fact how Alfred gates turned out yeah um and especially the fact that that there were

Nancy: officials there to check if we uh did it right according to permits uh if you want to know more about Alfred gates please go and visit the either the opening or the closing uh if you listen to them both you will have the full story but um we split the bar in two uh half of the bar was bar the half of the bar was supermarket and then the people came to check it and they said we see no irregularities here and they left the fields with all green marks so that was a personal highlight

Ad: of me as well because that was just that sounds like interesting it was it was hacking the system

Nancy: so that was a personal uh personal lovely hack that i uh that i enjoyed a lot and oh there so so much more cool stuff

Speaker: oh the last one i want to end with is um my next big project next to uh vehicle uh will be the special

Nancy: Olympics i have a warm heart for accessibility i'm very happy that this time we have a team accessibility which existed of uh Simon uh so please for next time please join join in to make it even better but uh uh Simon together with me myself myself and andRrobert uh we made a lot of things happen and also with all the other teams a lot of improvements were made for people with all types of disabilities which i think is awesome and one of the things that that was that really touched my heart was the fact that there was this one guy who had never been to a hacker camp before because he wasn't um uh courageous enough yet to ask for help uh he did and he did somewhere in february or even a bit earlier he reached out to us and said hey i want to help i would really love to go go to camp he also did some work for team badge i would really want to go to camp and uh but i need some mean of transportation on the field uh can you please help me with that and we did and uh on the first day of camp uh uh he was there and i fell into he fell into my arms crying and i was also crying and i'm crying almost again because it changed his life uh and i i might say yeah i think um it's safe to say that we changed his life by making it possible for him and he sent me an overview of the fields because he had a tracker on where he went during camp and everywhere everywhere everywhere he was all over the place i think it's i think it is so awesome uh that we uh made this possible for more more people than just uh in this case uh uh but i'm so happy and proud that uh that we've been able to do this and i'm so happy that we've been able to do this more people are able to visit camp and and be a part of it and be a part of the community by that um yes it's only one of four thousand people who were on the field but for me uh this was uh i could have just organized this whole camp just for him and i told him also you are second but because the one person i organized this camp for was uh was was Paul my favorite player too
