Please note that we ordered the mugs to be able to withstand dishwashing.

You're home and the badge won't update over WiFi anymore?

Use the [https://why-prog.heplaphon.com/ WHY badge flasher] (requires Chrome or Edge browser).

Select "BadgeVMS post_event" for a firmware supporting WiFi setup.

If you don't want to install Chrome or Edge on your machine, you can compile the current firmware version yourself, using the instructions on [[How to develop an app]]. The updated firmware will automatically add the new settings app to your badge.

If the m.2 connection is flaky, the system will probably boot-loop. Symptoms: serial output with hard crashes every few seconds, no backlight/picture. Bas' connector broke off entirely.

Rework the connector with a bit of flux, solder etc and it should be back to normal. Recommended for everyone is to put two *small* drops of self-curing epoxy or a glue on either side of the connector to improve mechanical strength. A user recommended E6000 glue and to let it cure for 24hrs.

A soldering tutorial might appear within a week.

== Batteries ==

Currently cases are designed around the prototype PCBs. The final boards might be slightly different, so best advise is currently to wait until (after) the camp with printing one - the badges will be usable without a case. Instead, maybe help with printing the 3mm full-frame spaces (see above).

• Bring M2 screws, up to 15 mm in length depending on your case design.

== Installing apps from BadgeHub via microSD Card ==
You need a microSD card for this.

# 1. Create the folder stucture ./BADGEVMS/APPS on there.

== ℹ️🪛 Update! State of "Not assembled" Badges ==
For the badges that were handed out in an unassembled state, please make sure to follow this guide for assembly:

2 variants spacers were added to the white bags that were handed out with your badge:
* 1 variant has a fully printed frame with holes on each corner.
** This one needs to be placed between the badge carrier PCB and the front plate and will cover all electronics on the side.

* the other variant has (at least) 4 small black plastic cilinders. The cilinders look like the following:

== Badge Assembly at BadgeTent ==

We aim to conduct the full-scale assembly during the whole day of Friday, which will involve a maximum of 30 volunteers working in the 15*15 meters BadgeTent.

Assembly involves screwing everything together.

=== Lessons Learned during Badge Assembly ===

We encountered a small number of badges (three in total) where the Keyboard Dome Layer was slightly misaligned, leading to a few non-responsive keys. Thanks to our initial test-flashing process, we were able to detect these issues early and have since improved our application method for the Dome Layer.

To ensure quality, every badge will undergo a final quality control check, including a visual inspection of the epoxy and final firmware flashing, so that everyone receives a fully functional badge.

• You’ll also receive a screw-on LoRa antenna.

Select "BadgeVMS post_event" for a firmware supporting WiFi setup.

If you don't want to install Chrome or Edge on your machine, you can compile the current firmware version yourself, using the instructions on [[How to develop an app]]. The updated firmware will automatically add the new settings app to your badge.

If the m.2 connection is flaky, the system will probably boot-loop. Symptoms: serial output with hard crashes every few seconds, no backlight/picture. Bas' connector broke off entirely.

Rework the connector with a bit of flux, solder etc and it should be back to normal. Recommended for everyone is to put two *small* drops of self-curing epoxy or a glue on either side of the connector to improve mechanical strength. A user recommended E6000 glue and to let it cure for 24hrs.

A soldering tutorial might appear within a week.

=== Lessons Learned during Badge Assembly ===

We encountered a small number of badges (three in total) where the Keyboard Dome Layer was slightly misaligned, leading to a few non-responsive keys. Thanks to our initial test-flashing process, we were able to detect these issues early and have since improved our application method for the Dome Layer.

To ensure quality, every badge will undergo a final quality control check, including a visual inspection of the epoxy and final firmware flashing, so that everyone receives a fully functional badge.

Ultimate Frisbee clinic and/or free play.

The game of Ultimate Frisbee is a team sport in which the goal is to catch the disc in the opposing team's end zone. For those new to the sport, simpler training exercises and free throwing can be a fun activity.

A training session generally consists of: warmup (no requirements), frisbee exercises, a game of Ultimate. Depending on the experience and age levels, the exercises can be adjusted.

* Discs (Frisbees), at least 10.

* Cones/hats, at least 10.

* A couple of black magic markers so procured discs can be personalised.

* Discs to give away or to sell. (Optional, but has been arrranged. But they got stuck at customs, so they arrived first after the event.)

* (Optional) vests (hesjes), or some other distinguishing feature, to make teams. Mobility/angel team vests have been suggested.

== Materials arranged ==

* Sedje assumes he can borrow both discs and cones/hats from the Groningen frisbee club;

* Discs have been procured with the WHY2025 logo on it (waiting on printing and shipping). They can be sold at a friendly price.

== Howto: Buildup ==

* A field is required. How much room, depends on the age group. 6-9 year olds can throw at most 10 meters. 16+ year olds can manage over 60m. For 12-16 an unobstructed 60m x 25m field with room for errors would be nice.
* Setup of a field takes just the time it takes to put out cones.
* sedje assumes his Frisbee-savvy children will help.
* An hour of play is about the right time. Could be done more than once if there is time.
* Depending on demand, signup might be required. The field size, discs and volunteers limits the amount of simultaneous activity. Knowing experience and age beforehand also helps plan exercises ahead of schedule.
* More detailed instructions will likely be made by sedje for two to three experience categories / age groups to offload mental workload later.

== Howto: Teardown ==

* Teardown is a matter of removing the cones and collecting the discs and vests.

== Log / Lessons learnt ==

* There was a playing field reserved, sort of. It was however not entirely clear to everyone that tents should not be placed there. Last minute we managed to move a family off it, and then mark the (20x6) field as taken by drawing a cross on it with ''barricade tape''.

* Instead of planning times in advance, we simply discussed the time for the next Clinic during the ''daily Family Village standup''. The advantage was that sedje was free to check out talks/workshops if needed. The other advantage was that we could schedule it ''around'' other fun kid events. The disadvantage was that it wasn't in the official planning and maybe didn't get as much activity as it might have had.

* The field was quite small for larger kids. But for the small ones, it was the right size. A big tent on one side was a good obstacle. It caught some wind and it caught some frisbees.

* We skipped the warmup. Good exercises were: basic back and forth throwing, learning the side-arm, doing simple break the mark ("break the stick"), heads-on drill (with extra cut), and a basic "cheese" cut with a disc thrown from a static teacher.

* Those exercises, a short 2v2 example of an Ultimate Frisbee game, and two to four people who know the game were sufficient do get an example game going. Then expanding to 3, 4 or 5v5.

* Most sessions involved kids in the 7-12 range (plus some adults). For larger kids a bigger field would've been preferred.

* The discs were ordered late. The supplier needs maybe 8 weeks normally, but more during summer. We needed to coordinate with team Sponsors. And we had some issues with the vector image. All in all it was in time, but then we had a setback with customs in Germany. sedje didn't dare recieve the discs on the terrain on the last or second-to-last day, because if they were late, they would end up in limbo. When that were the options, we cancelled and ordered them to sedje's HQ instead.

== Procuring a frisbee ==

As mentioned IRL, we couldn't get the frisbees in time. They have now arrived in Groningen. Picture at the top of this page. I think they turned out pretty well.

I'd like to get these frisbees out to anyone interested through ''chaos post'' when possible. For starters, you can jot down your name/handle and nearest hackerspace.

===Food & drinks===
You can buy food and drinks at the food court where a variety of vendors offer a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. 
For essentials, snacks and beverages, there is an on-site supermarket.

===Badge===
Team: Badge has created an amazing badge for WHY2025.

===On-site Payment===
You can pay with your bank card or credit card, wearable, or you can go to the Infodesk and exchange cash for a QR code or to charge your NFC card. 
You can use this to pay with at all on-site vendors.

===Get connected===
There is wired ethernet available on the camp grounds, which is distributed through so-called ‘Datenklos’. 
Just lay your own cable with 5 meters of slack from the datenklo to your tent. 
Network Angels will visit the datenklo at regular intervals to connect you. 
To get disconnected, leave your cable curled up at the datenklo and the angels will unplug it.

===Phone network===
There is a phone network at WHY2025 operated by Team:POC. 
To activate your GAP-compatible DECT handset or use your SIP-compatible phone at WHY2025, please register your personal extension and follow [https://poc.why2025.org these instructions]. 
 
Outgoing calls are prefixed with a zero, international calls with three zeros. You can also be called from the outside world via the following numbers:

There will be a 2-wire fieldphone network run by a 60 port manual phone exchange, which is connected to the DECT and SIP network.

A village is a group of like-minded people who want to camp together and more or less organise themselves. 
Some villages organise sub-events, hackspaces or they have a self-curated programme. 
If you see a village you like, don’t hesitate to say hi and strike up a conversation.

From bouncy castles to coding, there’s fun for all ages. Join water gun fights, workshops, or relax with board games.

TODO: All fields are named after colours Also, a lot of the babies will sleep in the Family Zone. Noise can be made until 1:00. But after 1:00, please keep it down to let people and the neighbours enjoy their sleep.

== Power on the fields ==
For safety reasons read [[Facilities#Power|this first]], before connecting your equipment. The distribution cabinets on the fields can be used to power your stuff. They are placed about 25 meters apart. Be kind and share your power with your neighbours. Keep things dry! Use SCHUKO plugs, we don't facilitate the BLUE 16A CEE plugs. There are some 400V/32A 5pol. sockets too for villages and bigger projects. Consult [mailto:Glenn@captainpower.nl Team:NUTS] if you need to use one of those for big stuff like pizza ovens. You cannot use full power everywhere. Try to cook on gas instead of electricity.

Since we cannot allow too many cars on the field during build-up, we built a tool to help visitors to distribute their arrival over time. By setting the 'Build-up-Time slot' value on your User-Page on the wiki you can indicate when you want to arrive and enter the field with a vehicle. Please also register in the angel system if you want to arrive during (early) build-up.
That data is then aggregated and shown on the [[Camping/Buildup]] page.

==Small Tents==
The most obvious way to provide a sleeping space it bring your own tent and camp on the field. There are no requirements for small tents. Small tents provide sleeping space for a maximum of 5 persons, and include small pavilions.

Because the terrain is quite squidgy, scouting doesn't like any vehicles on the grass. That leaves only a few small areas that can be used for vehicles and therefore the number of vehicles allowed on the fields during the event is limited.

You’re welcome to cook with gas (but no charcoal, we’re not running a BBQ competition here!). For all the fiery details, check out our [[Team:Fire#Legislation|safety rules]].

Cooking with electricity? Well, we’d prefer you didn’t, but if you absolutely must, make sure to check with [[Team:NUTS|Team:NUTS]] first. It could affect where you’re allowed to set up your village—no one wants their tent next to a power surge.

There will also be a number of food trucks on the field.

= Animals =

Unfortunately, the camp is not particularly animal-friendly, and we must follow the guidelines set by the field's owners. As such, dogs and other pets—except for certified service animals—are not allowed on the premises. Stuffed animals are, of course, welcome. Please be aware that there may already be some mosquitoes in the area, so it's a good idea to come prepared.
