WHY2025 Payment System
The WHY payment system
MCH2022 was the first time, that we announced a dedicated payment system to replace the typical Dutch plastic event payment coins: Acceptance of card payments at every single point of sale on site. You could also call it a cashless festival. You can read all about the ideas and reasoning behind it on the MCH2022 Wiki page.
After having had mostly positive experiences with the cashless payment system at MCH, we'll be implementing it again for WHY. The reasoning hasn't much changed since last time - but allow us to rehash the major talking points. We'll try to keep it short and sweet - like an FAQ. If you have any additional questions that have not been answered yet, feel free to add them to the page below.
Is WHY going to be a cashless event again? How can I pay on site?
All outlets on site will accept all mayor credit and cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express; both in their Debit as well as Credit incarnation.
Why not plastic coins?
Plastic coins need to be rented from a supplier (or purchased), transported from the bars/points of sale, counted, etc. And the cash that is being used to buy those coins, need to be counted and transported, too. This is rather expensive and time consuming. Unredeemed plastic coins also need to be exchanged back.
Why not cash?
See the answer to the question above. While plastic coins keep merchants honest (they cannot declare less sales than they actually made), cutting them out is reducing the amount of work for the teams on site only slightly: The cash still needs to be counted and transported - which costs surprisingly a lot!
I really do not want to pay by debit/credit card
We will be offering an alternative means of payment for people do not want or cannot pay by card. This will take the form of a dedicated exchange point, where you can exchange cash for a prepaid payment card.
Details will be provided in the coming weeks.
The paper prepaid barcode printouts at MCH2022 sucked!
They sure did. They won't be coming back for WHY2025.
